Monthly billing addendum

This addendum supplements Mobile Smart’s original service terms for customers who separately authorize monthly PayFast payments. It replaces the original 1st-only billing-date provision for those customers. All other original terms remain unchanged.

Payment dates and amounts

Customers may select the 1st, 15th or 25th. The initial order checkout remains a separate one-time payment, including the first service payment and any selected once-off hardware. After initial payment, approved RICA and a signed agreement, customers may separately authorize monthly payments in the customer portal. PayFast securely verifies the card with a R0.00 authorization; no additional payment is collected that day. Future monthly collections cover only the disclosed monthly service amount, excluding once-off activation, hardware, installation and delivery fees. Outstanding invoices are paid separately and are not automatically added to this authorized monthly amount. The first scheduled collection is disclosed before consent and falls in the calendar month following authorization. Collections continue monthly until the authorization is cancelled.

Separate authorization

Choosing a billing day or signing the service agreement does not authorize recurring charges. A separate, unticked consent choice and authorization through PayFast are required. Existing customers are not automatically enrolled. Price or billing-date changes require a new disclosed authorization.

Cancellation and failed payments

Customers may cancel the payment authorization in the customer portal under Billing & invoices, or request assistance through accounts@mbsmart.co.za. Cancellation is complete only after PayFast confirms it. If confirmation is unavailable, the portal shows cancellation requested and allows a retry; customers should contact account support promptly. A payment already in processing may still settle and will remain visible in payment history. PayFast sends the customer a cancellation email. Service cancellation requires at least one full calendar month’s notice, effective on the last day of a future calendar month; monthly mobile data can be cancelled anytime. Cancelling the payment authorization does not waive outstanding fees. Failed payments appear in the portal payment history, are never shown as paid and never trigger activation. Cancelling a payment authorization does not prevent settlement of payments already in progress. Your card details remain with PayFast. Mobile Smart stores an encrypted authorization token inaccessible from your browser, and a dated record of the accepted amount, billing date and terms version.

Updating your payment card

Use Update payment card in the portal payment settings for the relevant active service or mobile-data subscription. PayFast securely handles the card change on the existing authorization; Mobile Smart does not collect or store card numbers or security codes. Updating a card does not create another subscription, change the monthly amount or billing date, or add an activation fee. PayFast returns you to the portal whether you complete or cancel the update; only its confirmation establishes completion.

Service activation

Successful payment does not itself activate a service. Activation still requires approved RICA documents, a signed service agreement and supplier confirmation.
